Pane row and column freeze

D

The help manual seems to suggest that both rows and columns can be frozen. I
dont seem to be able to accomplish this.
What I want is to have rows 1 thru 4 to remain visable and columns a and b
to also not move down when I scroll down. I have placed my curson at the c5
cell and selected freeze pane. the top 4 rows are always visable but columns
A and B scroll up with the balance of the worksheet. I am using Office 2007
ultimate edition.
Any help or ideas???

If you freeze panes at C5, you will always see rows 1:4 and also A1:B4
(because they're in rows 1:4). However, A5 & beyond will scroll when you
scroll below row 4. You can't have what you describe. You can't see A5 while
looking at H200 if it's split as you want. You might try using View/New
Window & arranging the windows and you can then scroll totally
independently. You might even do View/New Window several times & arrange
them. Playing with that setting will enable you to see what you want, I
think. Once you've done New Window, tho, don't save your workbook with the
new windows or you'll always see these windows -- close the windows by the
"x" in the upper right until there's only one window left.
