Panther, Office X and Web Queries

Simon Q

Hi there and apologies if this has been posted before!

We have a machine that is running Panther and Office X with all the
latest Service Releases and patches.

We have a ColdFusion page which simply generates a page and then
inserts this into Excel. Works perfectly within Windows and OS 9,
Office 98 (mac). Basically the cfm page connects via a ColdFusion
datasource into MS SQL 2000 to call a stored procedure.

Page loads fine in a web browser on the Panther machine but will not
refresh within Excel. Have installed iODBC and MS Query X (although
not sure if this is really relevant). All to no avail!

Thanks in advance.

Hi

When you create a web query in Excel, the External Data toolbar becomes
visible. If you've turned it off you can turn it on again from the View >
Toolbars menu.

Click the Data Range properties to adjust refresh settings. If they're not
robust enough you can control the refresh rate using Visual Basic.

Hi Jim.

Sorry but the page does refresh. Problem is that after a while an
error message comes up saying that it could not execute the query.

Thought that it could be a timeout thing but it is huge!

Cheers.

Simon.

Hi again,

It sounds like the web page you are accessing might be using a cookie that
is expiring. Check the cookie tab in Internet Explorer's preferences (that's
what Excel uses for cookie management).
