Paper Size

P

Pelle

I have a report with a special papersize wich writes to a
DYMO Laser Label printer. On my computer an two more it
works fine. But on others Access changes the papersize
randomly. Exatly the OS(XP),Access(2000), and printer
drivers in all machines and the the same servicepacks.
The users runs my database (MDB) from a network location
so it´s the same database. When I use the label printer
from other programs i works fine on every computer, It´s
just in Access that it not working. I did av preview of
the report and noticed that on the machines not working
Access changed the paper size. Any ideeas??

Sounds like this bug:
ACC2000: Lost Printer Settings When Name AutoCorrect Is Enabled
at:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=240826

Turning off Name AutoCorrect and the compacting should solve the problem,
but be sure to download Service Pack 3 for Office 2000 and Service Pack 8
for JET as well from support.microsoft.com.

Okay if it is not that issue, we need more detail.

In report design view, have you assigned the report to a particular printer
rather than the default (File | Page setup)?

Was that a local or network printer? Is there any consistency on the
machines that do not have this right (e.g. the one with the printer attached
gets it wrong)?

Is the database split, so that all users have their own front end with
tables attached from the shared back end? If not, does it make a difference
who has accessed the report?

If you preview the report and it shows incorrectly, are you then able to
choose the desired printer and page setup in preview on that computer and
get it printing successfully?

To Allen:
1. I´ve assigned it to another than default.
2. A netowrk printer, TCP/IP printing.
3. It´s not a split database. All is in one MDB-file on
the server wich the users has a shortcut to. They the log
in with users in the database with different rights.
4. If I,in preview on "fault machine",changes paper size
it becomes correct for just that one and for that
printout.

-It doesn´t matter what user I log in as, the fault is
bound to certain machines.
-On 3 machines it allways work.
-If all users logg out and I start my database on
a "fault machine" as supervisor. Design the report to
right papersize. And then logs on as normal user again it
works on this machine and the 3 it always works on. If I
do the same procedure with another "fault machine" it
works on that one but not on the previous...?
-I have many reports which goes to different printer and
different trays on the printer and the allways work. This
is thoug the onely one I change paper size.

It´s very weird and can´t figure out what to do.
Thank´s for all your efford so far, do you have any more
tip?

There has to be some difference between the "fault machines".
I think I would be double-checking the actual versions of the dlls in use,
e.g.
- msjet40.dll should be 4.0.8015.0,
- msaccess.exe should be 9.0.0.6620.
- typing ver at a command prompt gives Windows version.

In any case, the best workaround would be to split the database so each user
has their own copy. This will help avoid other issues as well, and judging
from the debugging work you have already done, each machine will hold its
own settings.

To Allen,
Thanks again for the tip.
Unfortunaly it was this versions on all machines.
(I do not want to split the database.
So far I´ve had no problem with one database and as I see
it it´s a big advantage that every user run the same
database and I don´t have to make adjustment on single
machines. So far the onely thing I´ve done is to mail a
shortcut to the user. But now after 8 years with this way
I finally bump in to a problem.)

The logical thing is that there is something different in
the machines but i don´t find what.
