Paragraph Break in Text Box Prevents Saving of Data

Please help!

I have a string element called PositionNotes. I am checking the value prior
to saving it. I use node.txt to reference the value and I also have been
checking it with node.xml.

When I do not have paragraph breaks in the box, both the validate fires and
the values are correct and get updated.

But when I do use parapgraph breaks, neither validate fires nor do the
values get updated.

Any ideas as to why this is happening? Is there a workaround?
