Paragraph Cross Referencing

When merging a document containing paragraph cross-
referencing all references to paragraphs are turned into
straight text.

Is this a fix for this problem?

No. It's because cross-references are linked to bookmarks.
And a bookmark name must be unique in a document. As soon
as you mail merge, bookmarks would be duplicated, so
they're removed. And the fields that maintain the
cross-references are mutated to plain text.

Which version of Word do you have, and what, more
specifically, is your goal when using mail merge? Perhaps
we can find another approach...
