paragraph delete inserts leading space?

I select an entire paragraph and delete it, and Words inserts a space
at the beginning of the next paragraph.

Does this drive anyone else nuts? Is there an option somewhere where I
can turn this off?

Is it inserting a space or a blank line? Try switching the Show/Hide
on. This is an icon on the formatting toolbar which looks like a black
backwards P. When you switch it on you can see all tab marks, spaces
and paragraph marks. When you select a paragraph to delete it, make
sure you include the paragraph mark in the selection before you press
delete.

No, it's a single "space" character that Word inserts at the beginning
of the paragraph following the one I deleted. I have to run a macro
every once in a while that replaces "^p<space>" with "^p" in the whole
document.

Hi again Roscoe - I was just wondering if it is a style thing. I have
just modified my Normal style by selecting Format from the Style Modify
dialog, chose Numbering, chose Customize, and from the Number Style box
selected none, ensured there was nothing in the Number Format box then
selected Space as the "Follow Number With" option. Set the indent to
0. This then puts a space at the beginning of every paragraph.

This sounds a little bit complex to have set by accident, but other
than this being style related, I cannot think of any other option which
you can set which would insert a space before a paragraph.

When you delete a paragraph mark, the paragraph below takes on the
formatting of the paragraph above.

Can I suggest you put your cursor in the paragraph which has the space
at the beginning, click on Format, Styles and Formatting, click on
Modify, choose Format, choose Numbering - click on the Outline Numbered
tab - is one of the number boxes selected or is the None option
selected. If one of the numbered boxes is selected click the None box
and click on OK, click on OK.

If this is not the case, let me know and I will put my thinking cap
back on. Or can you send me a document where the spaces appear in
front of the paragraph so I have something to play with. You can send
me the doc to (e-mail address removed)
Thanks and regards
Lynn

Without digging into to it, I don't think this is the case. It happens
every time I delete an entire paragraph, no matter the style (of the
deleted paragraph or the one that follows and gets the phantom space).
