paragraph is not following previous style

Hi
I am trying to learn Word after having used WP for many years. My objective
is to have the paragraphs from a certain point on to be indented. I am
attempting this by creating a style for the current paragraph and stating
that the following paragraphs should follow this style. The first paragraph
indents but the following paragraphs do not.
Help please
