Paragraph numbering in master documents

I'm sorry if I am repeating a question - I have browsed through the
newsgroups but can't find what I think is a very easy fix for my problem.

I have set up a number of subdocuments each having a simple table of
numbered paragraphs within. When I create a master document and insert
subdocuments the documents number consecutively throughout the whole master.
I need them to restart at 1 in each new subdocument (without having to
manually restart). I have tried setting up a different style for the first
number (e.g. 'Task First' followed by 'Task' styles) but it will work
initially but as soon as document is closed then reopens it resets the
styles.

I am also finding that styles are losing their font settings but maybe this
is a question for another newsgroup???

It's possible that you have not received a reply to your question because
most of us here have no experience with them. We are leery of master
documents, with good reason: see
