Paragraph Numbering Schemes

Is there a way to set up a list of numbering schemes to be used for our
documents. I have searched all the sites but have not found anything that
would help me. The best I found was to save a document with a certain
paragraph numbering scheme as a template and use that. But that does me no
good if I have a template document (letter, memo, etc.) and I want to add a
numbering scheme to it. I also don't want to keep numbering schemes in
"bullets & numbering"; that can get confusing.

I just want a clear list of the schemes to choose from and then apply to my
document.

You don't apply "schemes"; you apply styles. Start by customizing the
built-in List Number styles, following the instructions at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. If this one
list template doesn't fulfill your needs, define another linked to a
different set of styles.
