Paragraph Numbers not showing

R

Regina

Although my numbering scheme has worked out great in many documents
(following directions in Shauna Kelly's website), there are now two
instances of the actual numbers not showing in a document, even though
the correct style has been applied, and linked properly (as the
following numbers appear in
sequence and it shows up in the TOC) but why won't the actual number
show in the document? This has occurred while editing a document, not
creating from new so I don't know if that is the problem or not - ?
thanks for any ideas!

Hi Regina

Try selecting the whole paragraph, then do ctrl-q and ctrl-spacebar. Does
that solve the problem?

If that fixes the problem then there was some kind of direct formatting
applied to the numbered paragraphs.

By the way, what you're experiencing is common when you copy and paste
numbered paragraphs from one document to another, although this problem is
far less obvious in Word 2002 and Word 2003 than was previously the case.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips, Shauna, however I tried it but still no actual
paragraph #'s appearing. I also tried Edit ->Clear Format, saved it
(the text is now in Normal style), exited document and then tried to
apply the style all over again but no luck. So thinking about what
you said with the problems with copying & pasting, I simply deleted
the heading and re-typed it, applied the style and VOILA! It worked!!
I'm posting this in case someone else has this same issue at some
point - it seems easier to just re-type it when one is dealing with
"inherited" documents!
thanks for your time & your fabulous website as well :)
