Am using Office 2007 and went to Word>options>display> and all are unchecked
in area "Always show these formatiing marks on screen". The paragraph
symobol is there what I see on my forwardes and replys but it is not checked.
At least I know what it is. Any other ideas? Could this have started with
Tuesday's Office updates from Microsoft this week? Started Wed. or Thurs.

Do they go away if you hit Control - Shift - 8?

YES!!! Thanks so much. It took pressing few times and for a while after the
symbols were flashing but it did stop. What caused this?

No idea. Most common reason I can think of is accidentally hitting
control-shift-8 in the first place.
