paragraphs have little bullets I don't want

Somehow I have managed to do something that produced a little bullet-like
thing at the beginning of every paragraph of a document and at every double
space. I can't figure out how to get rid of them. Help, please. I am using
2003

Probably "Keep with next" or similar formatting if it's a square bullet in
the left margin. If you double-click on it, you'll open the Line and Page
Breaks tab of Format | Paragraph. See

When I try to click on them I get the little cross with arrows symbol and
nothing happens. I followed all the links you suggested--and the links they
led to--and I am still stuck. Thanks for any other ideas you might have.

I don't know what happened, but those little marks disappeared as
mysteriously as they appeared. Thanks for your help.
