Parts of drawing missing when saved as emf file

Hi,

When I try to save or export a drawing as an emf (or any other picture
format) it is missing certain elements.

This has happened to me a few times now. The drawings that this happens to
are quite complex with groups, pictures (emf) and connectors.

At first I thought it was a memory issue, but I have just updated my PC and
the problem is identical.

I have had the same experience with EMF. Visio and Word don't seem to
handle large EMF files correctly.

Thanks for your comments. At least I'm not alone :)

I've been having this problem for years, it's strange that I don't get many
hits when I Google for answers.

BTW, I had recent sucess by copying a Visio drawing and instead of pasting
it as an emf, I pasted it as a picture.

Cheers,

Dave.

In Visio 2002 or later, try working with Enhanced Metafile. That option
seems to produce the best results when transferring images between Office
applications. If you are using the images in a non-Office application, you
should use regular metafiles.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm using Visio 2000 Professional SR1, Word 2002 SP3, PowerPoint 2002 SP3 on
Windows 2000 SP4.

It appears that a memory buffer is overflowing. The missing picture elements
seem random. Is there a Windows 2000 setting to increase the memory used for
these operations?

Cheers,

Dave

I don't think that memory is the issue. The difference in versions may be
an issue. Visio 2000 uses a different graphics library than Word 2002 and
PowerPoint 2002. Visio 2002 uses an updated graphic library that is also
found in these Office applications. That's one possibility, but there could
be other factors here.

Thanks again Mark,

I have had this issue with various drawings (normally the more complex ones
that use lots of stencils and connectors) even when I was using previous
versions of Office.

Is there a patch to Visio 2000 SR1 that could fix my problem?

Cheers,

Dave

I'm not aware of any updates that address EMF.
