Pass-through query for sub-report (Access 2003)

Is there any workaround to allow using a pass through
query for a subreport, while using link child and master
fields?

All kb's I've found say it can't be done, but I thought
I'd see if anyone has found a way to do this.

thanks

Hi Tom,

Thank you for using MSDN Newsgroup! My name is Billy and it's my pleasure to assist you
with your issue.

From your description, I notice that you'd like to use a linked subreport with a SQL pass-
through query as its record source. Have I understood the issue correctly and completely? If
there is anything I misunderstood, please feel free to let me know.

I believe you have read through the following article and make sure that this behavior is not
allowed from Access 97 to 2002.

288633 HOW TO: Base Subforms on SQL Pass-Through Queries in Access 2002

209116 HOW TO: Base Subforms on SQL Pass-Through Queries in Access 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=209116

112746 ACC: How to Base Subforms on SQL Pass-Through Queries
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=112746

I'm afraid I need to mention that SQL Pass-Through Queries also cannot use
LinkChildFields/LinkMasterFields in Access 2003. The best way to use server-based data in
a subreport/subform is to link the remote table and then base the subform on the linked table.

Tom, does this answer your question? If there is anything more I can do to assist you, please
feel free to post it in the group

Billy,

Thanks for your response. Yes, you have understood
correctly, and I had read those articles. I was just
wondering if there was a work around, or, if anything had
changed in Access 2003.

It appears I have no choice but to link the tables to use
the Link Master/Child fields for a subreport.

Thanks for your assistance.
