Passing Parameters to a Data Access Page

I am trying to perform a parater query using Data Access
Pages. I looked in the Assistence Center and it related
me to the folloging page :
http://officemicrosoft.com/assistance/2002/articles/acWebP
assParamToADAP-aw.htm where the give the "solution" to my
problem. The trouble is:

1. It says that I have to create an event on a command
button on a DAP and that can't be done.
2. The script they suggest gives a syntax error in the
setVariable statements (apparently there is not such a
command)

Can someone help me?
