Password Expiration

Michael McGinley

All,

We are using MS Project Srv 2K3 sp1 with SQL 2000 sp3 and WSS ver 2 sp1.

I remember when I originally installed the software , I used a domain
account a number of times during the install proccess.

My question is: When this domain accounts password expires, do I need to
update it anywhere in the server within the applications?

According to my notes, here is where I included the username and password
during the installation:

"Services" account for SQL Server
Extending the Virtual Server - Site Owner
Windows Sharepoint Config Wizard - Windows Account Name
Enter Analysis Services Connection information
Connect to Web Server running Windows Sharepoint Services

I hope I am clear on this, thanks in advance.

Thanks Gary.

If it is not possible to set the password to "never exppire", is there any
other way around it?
The do know that i have to change the SQL service.

Let me know....Thanks again!

Also, I neglected to mention, the password did not expire yet, I realize
that I will need to use a local account, I just would like to know where I
need to change the username and password?

Thanks again.

Michael,

The user accounts and passwords that you use for the PSComPlus configuration are what you really need to be concerned about here. Most of the others you can manage pretty easily and could be domain accounts.

The PSComPlus accounts should be setup as "service accounts" - to us the Micro$oft terminology. Domain admins should be very accustomed to this idea because every server they administer is setup with some of them by default. Once they understand the nature of the PSComPlus situation they should readily agree to using local service accounts for it.

Short answer - If you use local service accounts you set/maintain the passwords on the local machine. If you use domain accounts you set them on the domain (active directory).

In addition to what Earl told you, you'll also need to reset the password in
the SQL Service, although that might not crash until you try restart it.
