I am not fully sure but I think it is e-mail service to which Outlook connects
Did you try logging onto your e-mail account on the server using their
webmail interface to ensure you are using the correct login credentials?
That would only apply if using SMTP, not Exchange. As yet, you don't
seem to know much about your e-mail setup which means we here don't have
enough details to figure out the most probable solution. We can guess
but many would be a waste of our time and your time.
I haven't use a "2002" version of Windows. I've used the XP versions.
As I recall, Windows XP Media Center is sometimes called Windows 2002;
however, it could also be called by the 2004 and 2005 editions (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_xp_tablet_pc_edition#Media_Center_Edition).
Did you mean "XP" instead of "2002" (in confusing the 2002 components in
MS Office XP with somehow equating "2002" with Windows XP Home or Pro)?
Is that what you have?
In Start -> Run, enter "winver". Right-click on the "My Computer"
desktop icon, select Properties from the context menu, or use the System
applet in Control Panel and see what version is mentioned on the General
tab.
There is no 64-bit version of Windows XP Media Center. There is,
however, a 64-bit version of Windows XP Professional.
That doesn't say whether you are using Exchange or SMTP. If you don't
know, look at the type of e-mail account defined in Outlook, or just ask
your IT folks (they haven't been of any help?).
Talk to whomever is your e-mail admin, or your IT folks, or to your
helpdesk. You should have contacted them first, anyway.
After you get more specifics, you could also try searching Microsoft's
huge support knowlegebase at
http://support.microsoft.com. Use the
Advanced search, select your Outlook version, and search on "remember
password". My guess is to read the article that mentions the protected
storage area, so you could also add "protected storage" to the above
search string.
If you are in a corporate network that uses Exchange for their mail
server then why aren't you asking your helpdesk, IT folks, or e-mail
admin about this problem? They would be most intimate in knowing and
maintaining their own e-mail environment.
