Password needs to be recovered

I don't know if this question belongs in this newsgroup
but here goes. An ex-employee had protected a document and
now we need to access it to make some changes to some
legal wording but no one knows the password. Does anyone
know how to recover a "lost" password?

There are commercial programs that claim to be able to do it. Do a Google
for 'Word password crack' or similar. They're expensive and although I've
seen posts asserting that they work at least sometimes, but I've never seen
a post from someone with convincing first hand evidence ('I tried product
XYZ and it worked for me').

Re-typing the document might be less stressful.
