Password on Table or View

C

Connie

Is there a way to password protect a table or view? I have a
spreadsheet that I several people update. I have a view and table set
up for reports I need to generate. However, the other individuals
updating the schedule invariably add or hide columns to the table.
Thanks.

Hello Connie,

I'm assuming you're talking about Project here, not Excel. Unlike
Excel, Project does not have the capabilities of "locking" ranges
nor protecting a table or view. If the user has access to the
Project file, s/he can pretty much do everything.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Connie,

As Julie said, sorry, No.
But you can store your table and view in your Global.mpt file (try tools,
Organizer) and before making your report, copy them back from the Organizer
into your file.

Thanks. That's what I needed to know - I did not think it was
possible to password the view or table, so it's a communication issue
for me with my users not to touch my view! Thanks again!

Thanks so much - that's a big help in the event my view or table is
changed!

The issue is that they touch the view/table in the MPP file. That can
be "normal" and expected. Instead of trying to prevent that, why not
make it so that it's corrected automatically. Write small macro which
upon opening the file it runs and then copies all the "untouchable"
views and tables from global.mpt into the MPP file. Helps you with
versioning sinc what's in global.mpt is the "up to date" copy.

You're most welcome Connie and thanks for the feedback.
