Password Protect a Web Page

I have followed the instructions contained in ID: 825498 but when I go to
"test the logon web site" everything works except when I click on the
non-protected link I get the code text instead of the logon on box. When I
double click the logon file it comes up correct but not when I click on the
link on the home page. Help please

OK, let's try again..... at the end of ID 825498 under the heading "Test the
Logon Web Site," item #3, second line, "The logon.asp loads instead of the
password-protected page.".......that page loads but in the "code" mode, not
the "User Name" box view with the black background. How do I correct it so
the proper view loads? By the way.........try putting gas in your car.

Please give us a link to *your* website, so that we can see what is
available on *your* hosting package. Your hosts web site may be completely
different.

How are you testing the pages? In a disc-based web or on a server? In
FrontPage or in a browser?

How are you accessing the pages? By a http://.... reference, or through a
file system link like c:/path/pagename.asp?

Have you published the pages? What is the URL?

www.ramar.net

I test via the internet through Microsoft Internet browser. I upload through
FrontPage, then test through the browser. On my site click on "Trial Page"
and see what you get.

Your host server apparently does not support ASP
If it did, I would not see your VBscript in View Source

PS
You also have multiple body opening/closing tags in the page and the include file is not being processed

Thanks for your input. I will take up the issue with my server service as
their web page says they support ASP.

Your site is hosted on an Apache server running UNIX:
Server: Apache/1.3.33 (Unix) mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4
FrontPage/5.0.2.2634a mod_ssl/2.8.21 OpenSSL/0.9.7a PHP-CGI/0.1b

The easiest way to password protect a folder on an Apache server is via the web protect feature on
the web masters Control Panel, ( CPanel ) if CPanel is available.

Thanks again. That was too easy. I tried it on another web site I do and it
worked great. Funny my server didn't recommend that, or better yet, I should
have done a little more investigation of cPanel. Anyway, my problem is solved
and I surely appreciate your help.

S

Steve Easton

My Pleasure.

You have to do a little "digging" to figure out the features of cPanel.
