Password protect - Microsoft Outlook Session

Hari

Hi,

One of my colleagues sometimes shares corporate laptop with rest of the
family and would like to prevent launching of email programs (having
official email account settings) when somebody clicks on send email
link in any web-page.

Is there any way one can password protect outlook so that the prompt
appears before the start of each outlook session. If outlook is already
open (after inputting password) then one shouldnt need to input
passwords for each mail sent and received.

I believe that there is probably already login/password (probably same
as NT account) for connecting to the appropriate server for downloading
email and presently this might be in auto-authenticate mode. I see that
this option is available under email accounts --> more settings and
then Security tab wherein there is an option for checkbox in User
Identification. But I dont think this would work as its better if an
option is available for even opening the outlook (this way one can
obviate having emails in Outbox which would utlimately get sent when
connected to the server).

Is this possible?

Create a secondary user account for the laptop instead?

We can probably give this a try, though 2 concerns come to mind:-

a) We have auto-updates for all softwares installed in laptop wheneve
we get connected to corporate network. I fear that such configurations
might try to occur for the dual account as well. Am I wrong in assuming
this?

b) Also, would creation of extra accounts mean lesser hard disk space
as compared to somebody sharing an account just for browsing? Also not
sure as to how IT will view the creation of extra accounts.

1. There is only one instance of the program installed and therefore only
one instance of patching will take place.

2. If this is a concern (Also not sure as to how IT will view the creation
of extra accounts)
perhaps this person should not be "sharing" a corporate laptop for
"browsing" - after all, access to the laptop for browsing allows access for
everything, including company protected information.

Thats a valid point, but my colleague is more concerned that the family
(who is not really web savvy) might send an email by mistake. Anyway
thanks for the suggestion.
