Password protected .pst file and Skype

Hi,
For an Outlook 2002 data file that is protected by a password and already
opened in the computer, when openning Skype, it can retrieve the information
of contacts from outlook without asking for the password. This gives one the
bad feeling that the PST file is not well protected and that the information
can be retrieved from it easily by a third party. Is there a solution for
that?

If the pst is open within OL then that means that the password has been
entered, to enable this.
The password option is designed to prevent the pst being opened within OL

Simply don't allow the application to interact with Outlook. You're the one
in control here; you opened Outlook, you keyed in your password and you
allow the application to interact with Outlook. What is your insecure
feeling based on?

How do I prevent any application from interacting with Outlook? I just
unstalled Skype and ran it. Nobody asked me to allow the interaction with
Outlook, and it happened. It means that a third party can interact with my
outlook without asking me. I would expect Outlook to block ant intrusion. The
fact that my outlook is open -I open it with my password and leave it open as
I work with it. Should I be afraid that the data can be pulled by anyone as
long as Outlook is opened?

Simply don't allow the application to interact with Outlook. You're the one
in control here; you opened Outlook, you keyed in your password and you
allow the application to interact with Outlook. What is your insecure
feeling based on?

The outlook file is open as I work with it all the time. I do not expect a
third party to be able to pull information from it. As you suggest, it means
that as long as Outlook is open (which is most of the time) I should not be
connected to the internet, so that nobody can retrive the information from it.
I would expect that any program that seeks access to my open Outlook would
be requied to submit the password of the PST file.

No, Outlook will detect unauthorized program access. The add-ins you've got
installed are shown in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button Advanced
Options-> button COM-Addins/Add-in Manager

For Outlook 2007 you can see this in Tools-> Trust Center-> section Add-Ins
