Password Protection and Upload

I am using an upload script provided by Frontpage on a password protected
subweb. I am being required by my Frontpage Extensions to give users Author
status in order to allow them to upload. Of course, my page needs to be
secure (thus the password) so this is not good. Is there a way I can allow
uploads without giving Author status?
