Hello,

I am going through all of the backup CDs I made in college and have found a
few files that are password protected. One is a presentation, and the other
is a collection of lesson plans. I wish to use them in my upcoming school
year - but I have forgotten the passwords. Is there any way to get around
this?

I looked online and all I found were 2 programs for windows - and basically
a bunch of illegal hacking crap I want no part in. Does anyone have any
suggestions?

Thank you!

There are "legitimate" cracking services out there. Among them:

http://www.password-find.com/step1.php
http://www.lostpassword.com/decryption-service.htm
http://www.pwcrack.com/word.shtml

If your files are Word98 files or newer, they should be able to be
decrypted just like Word97 and newer WinWord files, since they have
identical formats. You may want to check with the vendor first if
the files are older than that, but the encryption prior to XL98 was
so trivial that I'd think they'd be able to work with them.

I've not used any of the above, so I can't personally vouch for
them, but I've heard from others that they've been successful.
