paste doesn't work

Paste no longer works! Neither the keyboard shortcut nor the menu
selection. These do work in other applications...also, copy works (I
can then paste to another app.)

This comes after sending my MacBook to Apple, where they reinstalled
OS 10.4.

Any ideas?

I've seen that once in a while when the loginwindow process had
crashed.

Does the problem remain after a reboot??

Give a couple details, please. After copying something, is "Paste"
dimmed in the Word Edit menu? If so, then there's a problem with your
Clipboard (a system/Finder thingy). If not, what do you get after
selecting Paste? nothing at all? And is this the same for plain text,
formatted text, and a picture or image?

Hi Mike -

Apple reinstalled 10.4.[what?] - the first thing you need to confirm is that
OS X and Office are fully updated & that you have run the Disk Utility -
Repair Disk Permissions in order to get things 'up to snuff'.

Next, if that doesn't resolve the matter, you need to provide more explicit
detail about the situation you currently have as well as the nature of the
problem that caused you to pack the system off in the first place. Word
doesn't actually copy/cut & paste - those are OS services that the program
simply calls - so if there is a breakdown in communication it could be on
either side of the fence.

Thanks for your replies on this.
The problem went away when I opened a document containing macros, and
disabled them. It didn't return even when I enabled the macros.

The original problem involved my optical drive, which Apple replaced.

The problem may be related to Math Type, which needed to be
reinstalled...now that the problem seems to be gone, I probably won't
track it to its source.

To answer specific questions folks had:
No, "paste" was not dimmed in the menu, but it didn't do anything at
all.
Yes, the problem remained after a reboot.

Morals to this story: Apple is serious when they tell you to back your
stuff up! They will wipe your drive clean without notice if they need
to.

thanks again-

Mike
