Suddenly I cannot cut and paste or copy and paste ... because the paste
command does not work. I click paste in the dropdown menu and nothing
happens. Any suggestions??

Mac OS 10.2.8 and Word X for Mac SR 1.

ps I am also experiencing funny behavior in Excel; whenever I try to paste
I get an error message that Excel cannot empty the clipboard. All this
started at about the same time.

Hi Dick,

I wonder if there's a cache or preference file somewhere that's messed up.
With all Office applications closed, pull the entire Microsoft Preference
folder (Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft) to the desktop. Relaunch Word
and Excel (which will cause new prefs files to be created). If the problem
disappears, you know that there's a corrupt preference file somewhere. You
can use a process of elimination to determine which one(s) or just recreate
all your preferences.

If that's not it, create another User (System Preferences>Accounts) and see
if the problem exists when you try Word and Excel there. If not, then
there's a problem in your original User; if so, there's a problem in Office.
Either way, post back.

Thanks for the response and apologies that it has taken so long to post this
message, but I did a dumb thing ... posted the original query and then left
town for two weeks.

When I returned I discovered similar problems ... inability to drag-and-drop
.... with other applications, notably iPhoto and PhotoShop Elements. So I
posted a query on the Apple boards ( no replies ) and muddled around a
little, repairing permissions with Disk Utility and running Disk Warrior.
Somehow I fixed it. Or the computer healed itself ...

This is my first experience on a Mac with such gremlin-like behavoir but I
do remember such things when I was a Windows user.

I have kept your suggestions for future reference. Thanks again for the
response.
