Paste function refuses to work

Ok, my boss has been happily copying and pasting text between different Word
documents all day long. Now, all of a sudden, the paste function refuses to
work. She has tried using the Edit menu copy and paste features as well as
the key strokes (Control C for copy and Control V for paste). She has Office
2003. Any suggestions?
