No, this is not the same bug.
Pasting "data fields" as "RTF" is asking for trouble. They're fragile
little beasties, and forcing a format conversion is risky. Just "paste"
them and let Word figure it out.
The "Document Full" error message is almost always wrong (misleading). It
actually means "I can't write this file to disk", which is often because the
fields in the text have become corrupt.
Delete them, then re-insert them. You may like to investigate AutoText as a
quick way of inserting fields.
At least you have found one thing: your tech support 'gurus' are not gurus
You are on a Macintosh. Re-installing the software on a Mac does
precisely 'nothing'. The installation checks that each file it is about to
write is older than the one it will write. If the answer is "no" (and it
always is if you have applied updates) then the files are left untouched.
The files that get corrupted are not on the disk to be replaced: they are
created as a result of your activities.
Try removing those corrupt fields and re-inserting them. You can quickly
find out if this is the problem:
1) Make a copy of the document
2) Open the FIND/REPLACE prompt and type "^d" in the Find What box (without
any quotes).
3) Blank the Replace With box and choose Replace All.
That removes ALL the fields from the copy. Now try and save. If the
document will save, then you know the problem is the fields.
If this test does NOT clear the problem, we know it's not that.
If it was the fields, put them back in (re-insert them, don't copy and paste
them).
If it wasn't the fields, come back and we'll help you look a bit deeper...
If you come back, PLEASE post a new question so we get all the details of
YOUR computer, not somebody else's
Cheers
I've been experiencing a similar problem with Office for Mac 2004. I've been
pasting data fields with Edit>Paste Special>RTF. After a couple of weeks
linking the same two documents I started to get the error message to the
effect of "Macintosh HD full, consider saving document to another disk or
deleting files to create additional space."
Last week it was only one document, but this week the error has spread to a
separate document in which I've been linking entire charts or documents.
Is this all related to the reported bug?
The tech support gurus had be reinstall the software but to no avail...
Thanks for any input!
