The paste options button has disappeared in Word. I have run the repair
option from the CD and it reappeared. Now it has disappeared again.
Can anyone help please?

Word Options, Advanced tab and under Cut, Copy and Paste section make sure
that Show Paste Options Button is still checked.

It is and that is very frustrating. The other frustrating thing is that the
settings are "Keep source formatting" but it doesn't!

Well that suggests an underlying problem with the registry. Are you
experiencing any other strange problems with settings?

Ah! That puts it into another light. Now I suspect that you must have a
third party add-in that's causing this problem and whatever it is has been
installed on both computers.

Have you installed some type of registry cleaner (such as CCleaner)? They
are notorious for screwing with registry changes)?
What utilities are you using that integrate with Word such as scan software,
PDF writers, document managers and such?

I haven't installed anything and looking at the list I only have one active
add-in (Person Name) but the weird thing is that the Paste Options button is
appearing this morning! Perhaps this is going to be one of those irritating
intermittent problems?
Thank you for your help. Any suggestions as what to do next please?

I've had a bit of a play around this morning and I think I've narrowed it
done a bit. It seems that if you paste from a non-Microsoft program (I'm
trying to paste from Notepad) the button doesn't appear?
I've tried Word-Word and Excel-Word which seem OK.

It should paste in plain text as that is the original formatting. That's how
it works for me. What is happening when you paste from Notepad?

It's applying the Normal style formatting.

Are you sure that the setting for Pasting from Other Programs is definitely
set to Keep Source Formatting? Note that there are different paste option
settings for pasting in the same document, pasting between different
documents and pasting from another programs. The last of these should be set
to Keep Source formatting and it will paste plain text.

Definitely. I've also tried changing them, coming out of Word, going back in
and changing again. If the Paste Options button appeared it wouldn't matter
anyway.
I really appreciate the time you're spending on this.

Will you confirm that:

The paste button appears when you copy paste from Word or from other Office
apps?
It appears if you copy paste from Internet Explorer?
It doesn't appear when copying from Notepad (or other plain text source)?
