Paste Special Multiply Formulas not working in Excel 2007

Not sure if anyone else uses this, but in 2003 you can copy a cell whose
formula is '=$A$1' then paste special multiply formula onto a second cell or
range of cells. If the second cell's value was 100 before the paste special,
the new formula after the paste special will be =(100)*$A$1. In effect it
converts a value to a formula of the value times another cell.

This is a very handy function that doesn't seem to work in 2007. Instead it
does the same thing as a paste special multiply values. If my A1 cell equals
10, it would return 1000 in the formula rather than =(100)*$A$1.

Is this a bug? Did they remove the functionality? Is there a fix? Any help
would be greatly appreciated!
