Paste Without Style

Is there any way to copy and paste text from one document to another in a
way that preserves the formatting, but ignores the style?

I have found that if styles are defined differently in two different
documents, then a copy/paste from one document to another usually produces
unsatisfactory results. The problem is that Word changes the format of
stylized text to match the new style definition. I understand that this is a
"feature" of benefit to some people, but it is not useful to me, and I am
trying to figure out how to disable it completely.

If I were working on my own documents only, I could deal with this by
carefully tailoring my style definitions. Unfortunately, I am writing
automated tools in VBA which must work with all users' documents. My goal is
to find a technique that will preserve the exact format of the text from one
document to another, regardless of the style definitions in either document.

I searched the newsgroup and found that many people have struggled with this
same problem. Has anyone found a satisfactory solution?
