pasting 4826 bytes in memo doesn't work

Acces 2002: I tried to past a text (4826 charcters says
Word) in a memo-field and get the answer: Text is too
long to be (in Dutch: tekst is te lang om te worden
bewerkt) don't know the english translation. Anyway, in a
memo-field i should be able to past this amount. How
come? I tried to stop the spelling-check etc. Thank for
any help,
