Pasting between Powerpoint and Word in Office 2007

Can I paste vector shapes/drawings from Powerpoint and still have them
editable in Word? I keep getting a bitmap as the result, no matter what I do.

It depends on what is being copied. Word & PPT use different implementations
of the graphics engine, so if the object includes options not available in
Word they can't be retained as editable: i.e., text in a rotated shape.

Have you tried Paste Special, MS Office Drawing Object?
Beware though, that if you edit these images in Word, the resulting image
can loss definition to the detriment of quality.
Personally I keep the images in PowerPoint and only Insert Picture
(differing formats, ie jpg, png, wmf, emf as required) to maintain quality.
Best of Luck
