Pasting cells from Excel to PowerPoint

Hi,

When "paste specialing" a contiguous range of cells from excel 2002 to
powerpoint 2002 as HTML format, Powerpoint automatically converts the data
into a fully editable powerpoint table.

This is not the case in Office 2000. Is there a workaround for this, or
would it require a substantial amount of programming / run slowly?
