Pasting data into excel looses quotation marks

E

Erik

I'm working on PocoMail filters and have collected and saved a sizeable amount of message body data
to either allow or disallow. For example

"online pharmacy",+
"online prescriptions",+
"online rx",+

The above three examples are saved to a text file (junkbody.txt) that PocoMail uses. Every so often
I want to sort and check for possible duplicates. For that. I cut and paste the entire collection from
the junkbody.txt file into Excel. Unfortunately, Excel looses the quotation marks required as seen in th
above example. Can anyone assist me in being able to NOTloose the quotation marks?
Help is appreciated

Thanks! :) Eri

How about a little cheating to fool excel?

Inside your editor (that supports things like edit|replace), change those double
quotes to some unique set of characters: $$$$ (if not used elsewhere).

Then copy|paste into excel.
then edit|replace $$$$ with "

===
But heck, if you're just sorting and checking for duplicates, do you really
care?

Dave, thanks for the help. I did as you recommended (inside Notepad I replaced all instances of " with $$$ and copied data into Excel successfully. In Excel I then replaced $$$ with ". The result: each cell only shows a single " without any additional data. Strange, huh? Don't worry, I have the original file intact :-

I think I've found a work-a-round for my task using Microsoft Word

From PocoMail's original (junkbody.txt) file that contained entries such as

"ref¡ll your prescr¡pt¡on",+
"regain your youth",+
"regardless of credit",+
"removal instructions",+

I pasted this into a newly created MS-Word doc. Then

Edit + Select Al
Table + Text to Tabl
Table + Sor

I end up NOT loosing any cell data, and the sort works fine for me

Dave, thanks for your help!

Glad you got it working.

I used a different text editor, but it did work ok for me.
