Pasting drawings into tables

M

Mike

I'm trying to copy and paste drawings from one Word doc to table cells in
another Word doc. But I can't paste the drawing directly into the cell I want
it to go to; it always pastes at the top of the page and I have to drag each
drawing into the correct cell. I've got a lot of drawings to move and it's
going to take too long using this method. Any suggestions?

You did not tell which version of Word you are using.

The problem is most likely that your pictures are not inserted with wrapping
style â€In line with textâ€.

In case of Word 2003, select Tools > Options > Edit tab. In the
“Insert/paste picture as†field, select â€In line with text†and click OK.

In case of Word 2007, select Office button > Word Options > Advanced. In the
“Insert/paste picture as†field (found in the Cut, copy and paste section),
select “In line with text†and click OK.

When “In line with text†is selected, pictures are by default inserted in
the text layer of the document. Pictures inserted that way act as characters.
If any of the other wrapping styles are selected, pictures are by default
inserted in the drawing layer of the document. You can change the wrapping
style of a picture at any time, e.g. by right-clicking the picture and
selecting Format Picture. You will find the wrapping options on the Layout
tab of the dialog box that opens.

Just a thought more fundamental than Lene's thorough reply - Is your
insertion point in the target cell of the table when you do the Insertion?

If not the image will attach itself to whatever paragraph the insertion
point is in. As Lene pointed out, however, this may vary depending on
version of Word, but in 2007 Text Wrapping shouldn't matter.

It's Word 2007. There's no "Word Options" when I select the Office button.
But in the meantime, I found that I could click inside the table cell where I
want the picture to go, paste it, and then use Format > Position to define
where I wanted it to go. The picture snaps into place and is faster than
dragging the picture to the desired location.
Thank you for your attention to my question.

When you click the Office Button, Word Options is at the bottom right, next
to Exit Word.
