pasting Excel into Apple Mail with Snow Leopard

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, and now when I try to paste part of an Excel spreadsheet using shift+edit+copy picture into Apple Mail, it creates a giant TIFF that is over 45MB. This didn't happen when I was in Leopard (same keystroke combinations only created a TIFF that was less than 1MB). Any ideas on what setting I have to adjust to get my emails back to normal size? (not including the size adjustment dropdown at the bottom right of the email, which makes for a poor email viewing experience).

Use Grab to copy only a selection (only what you really need)...

Then use Preview to save the result as GIF.

Uncompressed TIFF is huge, you need to either compress it, or re-save the
picture in a compressed format.

Cheers

So are you saying that the functionality of TIFF auto-compression for Mail in Leopard has been removed in Snow Leopard? That's disappointing. What used to take a one step in Leopard now takes multiple steps in Snow Leopard (opening Preview, etc)? Grab won't work for me since I need to paste a section of Excel bigger than the screen.
Thanks for your advice.

Not ideal, but here's another option:

Copy the range then go to another sheet,
Shift+Edit> Paste Picture,
Shift+Edit> Copy Picture,
Go to Mail & Paste

That should result in a QuickDraw picture rather than TIFF but doesn't
involve any other apps.

That second option works better since at the very least I don't have to open another app. Still more steps than before, but still very helpful. Thanks everyone!
