Pasting from Word

I am using Windows XP and Office 2003. When I attempt to paste a photograph
from Word to Photoshop or Paint, the color depth is reduced to the point that
the photo looks posterized. Anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Try using the technique at
http://www.gmayor.com/extract_images_from_word.htm to make a separate
graphics file, and open that in the program of your choice. No
promises, but it might help.
