Pasting Images From IE Into Word

I recently have started having odd behavior when I try to copy and paste
images from IE into Word. It no longer displays the image but only shows the
box or text surrounding it. I commonly will copy full web pages with a mix
of text/images to Word, but this doesn't work any longer. I have checked the
various settings suggested (placeholder checkbox, etc.) and they are correct.
I am running a computer with a robust graphics chip so I don't believe
that's the problem. I guessed that this was a security setting that I
inherited through an Office Update but I can't figure out what it is. Any
ideas? If I save the image to my desktop and then copy from that it works
fine. But that's of course very cumbersome.

Empty your Internet temp cache, in Internet Explorer, tools, Internet Options,
delete files.

I was hopeful but this didn't work. I forgot to mention originally that I am
using Word 2003. Any other ideas out there?

I don't have many non-MS applications but I tried to paste the image into
File Maker Pro and didn't have a problem. So it is copying properly, but the
paste restriction is with Office. I tested and get the same behavior with
Excel.
