Pasting pictures from adobe illustrator?

How can I insert pictures from adobe illustrator version 11.0 creative suite?
If I use the paste special option and then enhanced metafile I get the best
results when I print the document as there is no fuzzy pixelation in the
background, but I can't always do this, it only shows parts of the figure.
Paste special and any other function seems to give me this hazy background to
the picture when printing which is not ideal.

Save from Illy in an appropriate graphics file format, then use Word's
Insert>Picture>From File method to get the art into the doc.
