Patch error removing Office XP

I need to remove Office XP due to a program error, but I
get an error message saying "This patch package could not
be opened...". I followed KB articles 295823 and 290301
regarding the Windows Installer package, but nothing is
working. I tried installing it from the Office XP
CD...same error.

How do I go about fixing this error, or can I just
manually remove Office and try again?

I resolved the error by running Norton WinDoctor.

Further to this...
I got the same error for Office 2003 Beta2 when I deleted
the msi files that are installed into \winnt\installer and
then tried to re-run setup to uninstall (yes, i have
myself to blame, but why it created 2 .msi files of 140mb
each I fail to understand-why not just ask for the cd if
the install files are required again!).

I fixed by looking at KB-812490 and deleting the
appropriate installer key for office 2003. Hopefully this
might help someone else...
