I'm trying to apply the patch for the bug corrected by article # 818798 "OFF2000: Office 2000 Prompts You to Register After April 15, 2003". I have the patch correctly applied to my administrative share and am unable to update the clients using the method specified in the article. The setup on the client appears to run fine, but the mso9.dll file is not updated. I downloaded the client version of the patch and tried to run it. When I did, I was prompted with a msg stating that the update has already been done. When I check the Office version using the recommended methods, I am still at version 9.0.4204. If I manually copy the MSO9.dll file to the cllient, the client now reports the correct version 9.0.7616 SP3.
Questions:
1- Would there be any problems by me running through the recommended update process on the client and then manually copying the MSO9.dll file?
2- How can I enable logging on the client side setup so that I can determine why the file is not being updated?
Background:
Windows 2000 SP4, Office 2000 SR1a installed from the server (but updated to SP2+ via the web), AD, Windows 2000 server using DFS for the distribution share, running the proceses as a domain admin who has local admin privs on the client
