Patch? To remove 8.3 filename limitation in Word-95 v6 ...?

Being an Obsolete Person, I'm very fond of this word processor, particularly
the macro language which is quite easy to use. And I use Word-6 constantly
every day and just don't want to change. Has anyone written a patch to take
off the filename limitations? Wouldn't that just involve some changes in the
file saving and opening dialogue boxes? I've heard this is all contained in
a particular DLL common to all apps.

Thanks.

Just not going to happen. Word 6 was designed and built for Windows 3.1, and
that is where the limitation comes from. Later operating systems are able to
emulate the limitations for applications that were designed for that old
version of Windows.

If you want long filenames but essentially the same macro language and
overall layout, I recommend you see if you can buy a copy of Word 95
second-hand from somewhere
