Patches fail to install

My Microsoft Office 2003 Pro patches failed to install. I also tried using
Microsoft Update, but that also failed. The updates seemed to download okay
either by the Automatic Updater or by using MSFT Updater and selecting
Custom, and then choosing all applicable patches. This is more of an
annoyance than a concern, but I would like to know if others are also having
an issue, and if not, what my recourse is.

I had the same problem with this update...searched and searched and finally
found the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=884298 which
contains instructions to modify some registry values. I followed the steps
exactly and was immediately able to successfully install the troublesome
updates. Hope this helps.

Hello Lyle;

Thank you for answering my question, However, I am not sure how or why, but
the updates to my computer were installed sometime last night. When I went
to bed, I had the option of shutting down with or without installing th
updates on my shutdown screen. I left the computer on over night since that
is when my daily back-up runs. This morning, I found that the computer had
rebooted overnight by itself and that the updates had been installed. Rather
enigmatic, to say the least. So I never did try your solution, but I hsve
recorded it and will remember it for future reference.
