I have a network, not connected to the Internet on which I am trying to push
out patches for my Office 2000 and Office XP using the Patch Wizard that
came with the SMS feature pack (2.0). The problem I am having is that even
using the proper switches (or what I know to be the proper switches) the
patches aren't installing successfully.
When I log onto a workstation that has been/attempted to be patched, it has
the first patch showing a popup that the patch completed successfully.
After it, are the remaining patches (sometimes more than one advertisment's
worth, if allowed to continue over a couple of days) indicate that they
cannot begin since another patch is already in progress. Looking at the
process list in the task manager validates this. If I click okay on the
original "success" popup then the process terminate and disappear from the
list. I can also repeat the problem if I install the patch manually with
the same switches and not click on the final "ok" popup window at the
completion of the patch.
Obviously, this is what is hanging the installs of my patches, although from
my understanding, a quiet or unattended install shouldn't have this problem.
The patches I am using all have "/q:a /r:n" as their switches (this syntax
has been verified as the correct switch set for each patch). I have also
tried "/q:a /r:n" with no change in results.
Has anyone else had this problem or managed to get the SMS Patch Wizard to
successfully install multiple Office patches despite this problem? I didn't
seem to have any problems with my non-office patches using this tool.
