Patching the administrative install point

O

OLOT

For Office 2003 pro, SP1 comes with:

mainsp1ff.msp = patches pro11.msi
owc11sp1ff.msp = patches owc11.msi
Owc102003sp1ff.msp = ???

(1) what do I do with Owc102003sp1ff.msp? there are no other "msi" files in
the directory
(2) Do I patch all the updates since SP1 to the "pro11.msi" file unless the
update references "owc11"?
(3) what is "owc11" versus owc102003"?

Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. - I am following the microsoft guide for deployment and patching, but
it doesn't really breakdown the scenarios in details. ("if there are more
than one "msp"'s in the update, be sure to patch each one individually...)
doesn't make reference to not having the appropriate "msi"

If I read this properly, I really only need to run the (mainSP1ff.msp)
patch. I installed by using the "setuppro.exe /a" from the main root
directory.
(1) Is that correct?
(2) I ran the (owc11SP1.msp) patch on owc11.msi, will that affect my install
based (1) being correct above?
thanks in advance...
p.s. - I have not installed Office 2003 Professional on any workstations
yet. At this point it is only an administrative install point on my
server...

Updating Office Web Components
Typically, the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components and the Microsoft Office
XP Web Components are installed when Office 2003 is installed. If you
installed the Web Components in this manner, they are updated by Office 2003
SP1 (MainSP1.msp), and no additional updates are required for the Web
Components that are related to SP1.

If you installed the Web Components separately by using one of the following
methods, the Web Components will not be updated by installing MainSP1.msp.
You must take additional steps to update the Web Components. . If you ran
....\FILES\OWC10\Setup.exe from the Office 2003 installation CD, you must
update the Web Components by applying OWC102003SP1.msp. This file is
included with SP1.
. If you ran ...\FILES\OWC11\Setup.exe from the Office 2003
installation CD, you must update the Web Components by applying
OWC11SP1.msp. This file is included with SP1.
. If you created an administrative installation point for the Web
Components by running "Setup /a" from the OWC folder, and then you installed
the Web Components from the administrative installation point, you must
update the Web Components by applying the appropriate Windows Installer
Package that is included with SP1 (OWC11SP1.msp or OWC102003SP1.msp).
. If you downloaded and installed the Web Components from the
follolwing Office Update Web site, you must update the Web Components by
downloading the latest version of the Web Components.
http://office.microsoft.com/OfficeUpdate/default.aspx
. If you installed the Web Components while visiting a Web site, you

Components.

Note When you visit a Web site that uses the Web Components, you may
be prompted to install the Web Components on your computer.
To download the latest version of the Web Components, visit the following

If I read this properly, I really only need to run the (mainSP1ff.msp)
patch. I installed by using the "setuppro.exe /a" from the main root
directory.
(1) Is that correct?
(2) I ran the (owc11SP1.msp) patch on owc11.msi, will that affect my install
based (1) being correct above?
thanks in advance...
p.s. - I have not installed Office 2003 Professional on any workstations
yet. At this point it is only an administrative install point on my
server...

Hi Olot,

There are separate setup programs for
both OWC10 and OWC 11 on the Office CD in
their respective folder.

If you use the base Setup /A for Office 2003
your Office admin point should have the OWC11.msi
in the root folder and a subfolder for OWC11 with
that setup in it (i.e. OWC10 won't be there).

Update both MSIs on your admin point.
