Pattern fill effects

G

Gwen

I am using XP professional 2003 and an HP 5650 deskjet
printer.

I am having trouble printing pattern fill effects in Word
and Publisher. They are printing out with twice as many
shapes to the inch than appear on screen.

It has been suggested that this is a printer driver
problem. If so there are quite a few printers around with
the same problem as mine because I have tried a number of
computers running XP but connected to different model
printers to mine and I get the same result. A friend who
found fill effects printed out more or less to the screen
size was using an Epson printer and another friend using
an early version of XP and an HP1215 printer got the
correct size.

Would some of you out there running XP please try printing
out a pattern fill effect to see what result you get and
with what printer. I am curious to know whether this is a
common problem or exclusively mine and I am trying to
establish whether it is actually a printer driver issue or
a problem within XP, before I go to the bother of
uninstalling my printer drivers and downloading new ones.

Hi Gwen,

To some extent it's not so much a printer driver 'problem' as
it is a difference in the onscreen and printer resolution when
it comes to the pattern granularity.
