When you record narration there's an option to save it as an external file
or save it as part of the PPT file (or something like that -- PPT's
narration features aren't my strong suit). Anyway, by default it's embedded,
so yeah, you probably can't get at it.
You could copy your presentation, delete the other slides, and do a
File|Save As and choose HTML from the save as type dropdown box at the
bottom of the Save As dialog. That should give you an HTML file and a folder
full of collateral files -- images, sounds, etc. -- for that slide, and so
the narration sound file should be in that file. Copy that sound to the
folder with your real presentation and then use Insert|Movies and
Sounds|Sound from File to get it onto the slide. Then you can drag the
speaker off the edge of the slide so it doesn't show and set a trigger
animation to pause it. I don't know how this would affect the existing
embedded narration, though, especially if you recorded narration for the
entire slide show.
Maybe someone else will pop in with a better idea of how to pause a
slideshow. If the users will see the file using PPT and not the PPT Viewer,
then you could use VBA to do it.

You could add a trigger to pause the sound, but I'm not sure that will do
what you need. It kind of depends how things are set up.
Insert|Sound|From File, choose play automatically, then right-click and
choose Custom Animation. Add Effect|Sound Actions|Pause. Then
double-click
the pause in the animation list, and on the timing tab, click triggers.
Select to start the trigger on click of and choose an object that, when
clicked, will cause the sound to pause.

Hi there. I have a presentation that I've created with a voice
narration -
I
have two questions:
1. Is there a way to pause a slide so that the narration starts up
where
it
was paused when the slide is started again? Right now, the slide will
pause
but the narration starts over when I unpause.
2. Is there a way to put a 'pause' button on a screen? I have one slide
which is a small test (where the participants are given questions and
then
the answer comes up). I'd like the participant to be able to pause the
slide,
have time to formulate an answer and then unpause.
Are either of these possible? Thanks. Lori
