Happy Friday :)
Does anyone know why my Word 2004 Mac docs won't open on a PC? The
files don't even look like a word doc when they appear in an email
attachment on a PC. I created the doc at home on a G5 (LOVE IT!) and
sent it to my work PC...no luck! Please advise if possible, and thank
you kindly for your assistance!!!
Enjoy the day,
jess

Make sure you're trying to open the document file, rather than the
resource file that MacOS generates (the filename will be the same, but
starts with a '.', so it appears first in your Windows directory.

How are you sending the file to your work PC? If via Entourage, make
sure that the attachment encoding is set to AppleDouble or MIME/Base64
(Preferences/Encoding).

Just a couple of additional thoughts to add to what John posted:

1- Although some say (with good reason) that it makes no difference any
more, I prefer to include filename extensions - just check the box in Save
As. May not help, but can't hurt:)

2- Zip the file before sending as an attachment... that helps protect it
from the Windows Hatchet Men, especially if it's going to an Exchange
environment.

3- On the receiving end, don't open the attachment directly. Instead, save
it to the PC"s hard drive & open it from there.

I'm assuming that you actually *can* open the file, but that it doesn't look
right when you do... or are you saying that the attachment icon in the email
doesn't look like a Word icon?

And make sure that the message is whole downloaded from the server
and is not partly left on server - most people have this option
checked for IMAPs accounts.
