PC .doc file crashes word (Snow leopard)

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel My system is fully up to date - I install all auto-updates.

I have had no problem with any .doc file from my PC, and I have imported many.

An A5 portrait flyer .doc with pictures from a PC (received as an e-mail attachment) opens but almost immediately crashes mac word while trying to convert it to 2 A5 "pages" on a 2 column A4 landscape page for lazer print to be guillotined (print 2 pages on one sheet does not work with the snow leopard driver for my HP).

Converting to landscape or 2-column divides the page in narrow strips!

I worked round it by cutting out the text and pictures and pasting into an existing 2 column document.

I used the button to report the problem to Microsoft, but have had no reply.

If anyone is interested I can e-mail the troublesome file.

Hi Dick:

The "Send a report..." button injects your report and the section of code
that failed and a sample of the document code that caused the failure
directly into the Microsoft bug database.

You will never get a reply (they can't, the system doesn't send your email
address...) but your bug is now in the queue for consideration.

At this late stage (Word 2011 is due out at the end of the year...) it won't
be fixed, but your report will cause them to consider resolving the bug in
the next version. "Crasher" bugs will usually get fixed if there is time.

It is, of course, possible that the document you have contains bad code that
is not supposed to be readable.

If you wish to email the sample to me, I will pass it on to the Word testers
at Microsoft for you.

Hope this helps
